What Are Laser Treatments?

Skin resurfacing with our Lutronic Ultra® (LaseMD) and Lutronic Genius®® lasers at Sariel Aesthetics is a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure that uses pulsating beams of energy to exfoliate damaged skin layer by layer. The procedure is used for addressing facial wrinkles and lines and for diminishing skin irregularities, including pigmentation, acne scars, and other flaws. Also called a laser peel, laser skin treatments are effective facial procedures for people who want softer, clearer, youthful-looking skin. Here at Sariel Aesthetics, we offer two different lasers for addressing a wide variety of concerns:

Lutronic Genius: The Lutronic Genius provides maximum comfort for our patients while still bringing a high level of precision to each pulse. For patients looking to tighten, smooth, and rebuild collagen, this laser is an excellent choice.

Lutronic Ultra (LaseMD): For our patients looking for non-ablative treatment and healthy, luminous skin, the Lutronic Ultra laser option provides customizable and prompt treatment. This is also an ideal option for patients who suffer from scarring, pigmentation, or unwanted texture.

We will help you decide between our various laser offerings depending on your individualized skin concerns and goals. There is some recovery time needed with most laser skin resurfacing procedures. Any concerns or questions may be discussed with our Bradenton, FL RNA Amanda S. Urzykowski during the initial consultation.

Ideal Candidates

There are many factors to take into consideration when deciding which method of laser treatment is best for you. Laser skin resurfacing is geared toward anyone who is unsatisfied with their overall complexion. If you see skin damaged by the sun, acne scars, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, redness, or pigmentation issues, this procedure can be needed to correct these complexion blemishes.

Also, it works well for patients who have scaly patches, rough texture, or other irregularities. Laser skin resurfacing is not suggested if you have very dark skin or active acne. Also, it is important to understand that there is downtime associated with these laser treatments. Some patients, depending on their skin condition, may need as much as 2–3 weeks for recovery.

Our Laser Technique

When you are scheduled for a more intense or deeper skin resurfacing treatment, you may be given a topical retinoid for a few weeks before your laser treatment. The retinoid helps prepare the skin for maximum results. Medication may be suggested prior to the treatment to help lessen any sensation for greater relaxation during your session. If your skin only needs mild improvement, a local anesthetic may be used to numb treated areas of the face.

For the full complexion or deeper laser procedures, a type of sedation may be necessary. During the procedure, you will relax in our treatment chair while the laser handpiece passes over the skin, directly targeting the specific surfaces for resurfacing. You will feel the heat of the laser followed by cold air from the system's built-in cooling device. The laser energy works to remove damaged skin cells while also stimulating natural collagen production.

What to Expect

Following less aggressive resurfacing sessions, an ointment will be applied to the treated skin, and you can go home to recover. The treated skin will appear red, and there will be some swelling and irritation. This should subside in a few days, and the skin peeling process will last over a 3–5-day timeframe. If you are undergoing a deeper resurfacing treatment, your recovery period will last longer. The treatment sections may be protected with dressings, and the burning, irritation, and swelling sensation will be intensified. Pain medication can be prescribed to lessen these symptoms if needed.

The downtime associated with a more intense resurfacing procedure may last 2–3 weeks. All patients should limit their sun exposure after their laser skin resurfacing treatment and use sun protection regularly. Regardless of the intensity, the treated skin will naturally flake, crust, and peel off. It's vital to avoid interfering with the healing process to keep from scarring and protect your skin from UV exposure. Once the peeling process has been completed, the treated skin should feel softer while also appearing rejuvenated, clearer, and younger.
